Singer/songwriter Norah Jones will perform at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State, at 8 p.m. Saturday in support of her new album, "The Fall." The multiple Grammy Award winner, who has sold more than 40 million records worldwide, has taken a new direction with this album. Tickets are $45-$60.  

On Saturday, the Lansdowne Folk Club celebrates its 17th anniversary with a beef and beer fundraising concert and open mic, featuring Harmonious Wail, Phil Minissale with Bob Beach, and Aimless Pursuit. Food and drink are included in the ticket price of $25 with advance reservations. Tickets cost $28 at the door.  

Florence be warned - the life of the female singer songwriter can be a bit of a steeplechase. Katie Melua was in the leading pack of runners and riders along with Norah Jones, KT Tunstall and Joss Stone. But two furlongs in she fell away and new fillies such as Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adelle nudged into the lead.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has released its January and February Gold and Platinum reports, and Taylor Swift scored the highest Gold and Platinum album certification of any artist in those two months. Swift earned the distinction as Fearless was certified 6x Platinum in February, while her latest track, "Today Was A Fairytale," from the movie Valentine's Day , reached Gold rank, totaling more than 500,000 downloads sold since its January release. After attending the recent Norah Jones concert at the Brady Theater, I am convinced that the majority of attendees were either suffering from attention deficit disorder or were intoxicated. The concert started at 8 p.m., but it looked like a third of the people were not in their seats and were milling around. During the concert, I was appalled by the number of people who were inconsiderate and obnoxious to the people around them.
